3-dimensional old Dutch tiles
Play cube
The cubes show early 17th-century Dutch tiles. Such polychrome tiles were produced in large numbers in
Holland before the famous blue and white Delft tiles came into fashion. The technique of their production,
which used only four colours, had been imported from southern Europe. Many southern motifs, too, such as
pomegranates and bunches of grapes, were used at first. Later the decoration came to include typically Dutch
images, such as tulips and the Lion of the national coat of arms.
Single play cube: 10 x 10 x 10 cm.
4-in-1 play cube: 20 x 20 x 10 cm.

Tulip vase
A modern version of a 17th-century flower pagoda made of watertight polypropylene.
The concept of these flower vases with small spouts may have originated in Persia; they became fashionable in
17th-century Holland. William III, Prince of Orange and King of England, and Queen Mary both loved flowers
and ornamental gardens and many of these Delft pyramids were made for them.
With this kit the vase can be built without using scissors or glue.
Pour water into it and fill it with flowers.
Size when built: 26 x 26 x 42 cm.
